Pioneer Village it`s a wonderful place, where is history comes to life and all visitors can feel the atmosphere of the past. Founded in 1960, the village represents reconstruction of a 19th century Canadians settlement. Here you will find historical buildings, artifacts and actors which will tell you a history of lives of the first settlers.
Walking around the area you can notice how thoroughly restored all the details from wooden houses to the smallest household items have been restored. The Atmosphere is cozy and calm and that is what most impresses me. Walking along the narrow streets I felt like I was transported back for 3 centuries.
Interesting fact: one building in The Pioneer Village was transported here one piece. House of family Halfway was built in 1849 in the Scarborough village, and in 1966 it was dismantled, transported and reassembled in the Pioneer Village.
Besides, the original Stong`s family house, which was built in 1816, is in its original place. This is one of the few buildings that has been preserved in its an original form, which make it even more interesting for studding the history of the first settles.
In the village you can find many interesting places like Broom makers shop,
Charles Irvin’s Weaver’s Shop, Doctor’s House Roblin’s Mill, and many more. Each of these house is not only an old house but also it`s an interactive place. In the kitchen you can feel smell of fresh bread and to learn secrets of recipe traditional dishes.
In the forge you can find out the wonderful stories of blacksmith, that will tell you how horseshoes and tools were made. The store was a real discovery for me: pince-nez, gunpowder, unusual knitting needles for hear stile – such sings today can only be found in museums.
Animals made a special impression on me: the sheep calmly grazed next to the houses.
Looking around in the houses of the rich settlers, I was amazed by the details of their interiors, such as a stuffed bird under a glass cover.
But the houses of the poor migrants made us think: how could they live in such tiny premises and raising 10-12 children each?
